A Number of Things You Can do to Save The Bees!

As we already know, it is very important to help and save the bees. They are an important part of our life. Yet, they have been disappearing at tremendously scary scale. So, we need to do everything that is in our power to save the bees!

Here are a number of things you can do to save the bees:

Become a beekeeper

This is definitely something that you will enjoy! There are many reasons why you should start beekeeping. Of course, the main reason is that by doing so, you are saving the bees and you are contributing lot to the whole society. Beekeeping is often referred to like something very difficult and complicated. But, that is definitely not the case. It just requires some basic equipment, space, and patience. These small, but greatly industrious creatures amaze us with their hard work. So, even the smallest contribution from us makes a great difference to their work. You should not hesitate and start beekeeping

right away!

Plant bee-friendly plants

In order to save the bees

, we must do everything in our power to provide them with the food they need. Plus, all of the bee-friendly flowers are so beautiful, that we will enjoy them ourselves. We will be thrilled to feel those amazing aromas and colors. Even more, some of them, like the herbs, can be an extraordinary addition to our food and to our kitchen table. Take look at these 10 beautiful flowers to attract bees to your garden.

Alongside with the plants, you can place some containers with refreshment for the bees. For example, water. The bees will be thrilled to stop and rest for a little while. However, do not give the bees honey, or some artificial sweeteners. They may contain some viruses that can be easily transferred among the bees and passed on into the bees’ hive.

Support organic farmers

Organic farmers are the best for the bees! They use all natural resources for growing their crops. They do not use insecticides which are so deadly for the bees. One step forward in the battle of saving the bees is the support we can give to those kinds of farmers. Go to your local Farmer’s Market, meet and support the people who do such an amazing job growing healthy crops. In fact, buying these organic products, will not only benefit the bees, but also the local farmers, environment and ourselves!

Adopt a beehive

You should ask your local beekeepers or associations to see if they offer the possibility to adopt a beehive. If you do not feel ready to become a beekeeper, but you still want to help and save the bees, this is one thing you can do! Here is how this works: you will support the beekeepers in their work, for an annual fee. On the other hand, you will receive honey and bee products from the beehive. You will also receive information packs and other interesting stuff. This is a great way to contribute and help the bees!

Spread the awareness about the need for saving the bees

We should tell everyone around us and familiarize them with the problem. The bees are very important to our society, so everyone needs to know and contribute too. Every step counts! Even the smallest one! We should all do everything in our power to help and save the bees. We should raise awareness of the situation and work together to save the hard-working bees. For starters, share this post! Maybe people will recognize themselves in some possibility to contribute in some way.

Buy local honey

A relatively easy job to do is to buy local, organic honey. We should change the mass-produced supermarket brand honey, with a healthy and organic one. The thing is, our local beekeepers are surely more concerned about the health and good condition of their bees, unlike the large production companies. Most of these companies, mostly focus on their profits. By buying local organic honey, not only will you help the local producers, but you will also help yourself. Organic honey has many benefits for people and has many uses. Read more: Are we using real honey?!

Make sure that you practice organic gardening yourself

One very important thing to this matter is our own carefulness. We need to make sure that we use only certified organic seeds. The same goes for weed-killers and insect repellents.

  • Another one:
DO NOT put honey out to feed bees!
If you really think that they need to be fed, just put some sugar water out for them. They will use it to feed the hive.

  • While sugar water has been used for years, it has a couple of draw backs, It can find its way into your honey super and contaminate the natural honey, It also contains no trace elements so it tends to lower the quality of the bee food. There are recipes around to make your own balanced bee feed and there are some good, but a little expensive bee feed supplements that you can buy.

  • Has anyone any comment about using the syrup obtained from tapping the flower spathe of coconut or other, e.g. kitul, palm species? These are commonly tapped for the production of toddy and arrack. Would be less expensive than feeding bees honey. Also, maple syrup? I do not know how expensive that may be. Thanks.
