Sugar syrup is only a short-term solution when the bees have a deficit of food. We use sugar syrup to enhance the strength and to enlarge their winter stores in spring and autumn.
However, beekeepers mustn’t feed the bees sugar syrup if they have installed a honey super. This is because of many reasons, especially because of the following main one. When the bees have a honey super and regardless, they get the sugar syrup they are sensitive to the possibility of being confused and will use it and store it like honey, in the comb.
In fact, when a bee colony is strong and can have a honey super, it should not have anything else in the beehive. It does not need the supplements that you are willing to offer. When the colony is strong, it can care for itself more and be more independent. Thus, meaning it can have even more of everything, but only if it collects it itself. If the colony is quite weak, we should not give it honey super at all.
