This tragic event happened to beehives in Texas, where dozens of bees were attacked, set on fire and officials say that approximately half a million are killed.
This weekend was fatal for the beehives in Texas, as the attacked beehives were discovered on Saturday morning. The Brazoria County Beekeepers Association (BCBA) shared the news on Facebook and wrote:
“It’s bad enough to think in today’s world this would happen but dumping them over and then setting fire to them is beyond comprehension.” – BCBA say in their post.
“I broke down in tears when I saw a floating brood frame in the water with bees still caring for the brood.” – they add.
As BCBA’s president Steven Brackmann told the Houston Chronicle, each of the beehives had approximately 30.000 bees
. According to his estimation, around 20 beehives were damaged with half a million bees burning to death or drowning. Additionally, he adds: “Vandalism is one thing,” Brackmann said. “But for someone to go in and spend their time dumping over those hives and lighting them on fire… I think it’s someone that doesn’t like beekeepers or bees.”The police are searching for suspects and a reward is being offered for the information that will lead to an arrest.
